What is Reiki?
Reiki, pronounced "RAY - KEY", translates from its original Japanese language to English meaning "Universal Life Force" or "God-Conscious Life Force." More often than not, many medical professionals are considering the role that energy plays in the functioning of our bodies, as well as the role it plays in the healing process. The recipient of Reiki Energy can feel a certain "flow" of energy - this energy has been described in a number of terms - including: warm, tingly, zingy, cool, flowing, electric, and so on. Is Reiki Harmful or Not Intended for Certain Conditions?
Reiki is one of the least invasive of healing therapies. It is safe and gentle to use with any condition, including immediately following surgeries of any type. It is safe to use on infants, cancer patients, HIV/AIDS patients, diabetics … you get the picture. Reiki is safe, healing, and effective. It is healing based on ENERGY, not the manipulation of tissues. With a Reiki treatment, the client is not required to disrobe, but is instructed to dress comfortably, and to remove shoes. (Leaving your socks on for warmth is absolutely okay!)
Since no manipulation of tissues in the body is used with Reiki – in fact, the Reiki Practitioner is encouraged to keep his or her hands 2-6 inches ABOVE the body, just within the auric energy field, Reiki energy simply should not be regulated by a state board. Can I be Attuned Online?
Contrary to what some people want to believe, a proper Attunement in Reiki cannot be done online, nor can an appropriate Attunement be accomplished without a Reiki Teacher laying hands on or above his or her student. In our fast access, instant gratification society ... we are all guilty of wanting what we want when we want it! Patience and tenacity sometimes seem to be words of the past.
We ALL have the capacity to heal ourselves - Mind, Body and Spirit - and further research into energy healing is paramount if we want to learn how to better assist in healing ourselves and others. Consequently, Reiki is open to anyone who desires it. It is simply unethical, not to mention immoral, to mislead a person into paying any amount of money to be 'attuned' online. It simply cannot be done properly, without a Reiki Teacher who has been appropriately Attuned, laying hands on or above you for Attunement, in person. Reiki, although extremely commercialized in the United States since it was introduced here, continues to be held Sacred in many other countries, as it was always intended to be.

Are the Reiki Symbols Clandestine (Secret)?
Unfortunately, in recent years the once clandestine symbols of Reiki have been published in books and on the Internet, making them accessible for all eyes. (Nothing is kept sacred in a capitalist society, or with the media!) Even though the symbols have not been held Sacred, as they were originally intended to be, their powerful healing properties have not been reduced. The healing properties of the Reiki Symbols are simply not accessible to just anyone, even to someone who knows what they look like.
The ability to use the symbols properly, and for the appropriate situations that they are meant to be used, comes from a fairly lengthy workshop (usually 6-8 hours long, or more) in conjunction with a proper Attunement from a Certified Reiki Teacher, in person. Believe me, if I believed it was possible to Attune my students online, I would be doing it with the help of Paypal! The reasons people opt to ‘attune’ others online are mostly selfish reasons, I presume, usually because they are seeking to make money, and by offering this Sacred Attunement online, that person is able to market his or her expertise in a very unethical, unnatural, and fraudulent way.
As stated previously, an appropriate Attunement must be done in person, by a Certified ReikiTeacher. And a Reiki student is not only Attuned, but is verbally tested on his or her knowledge of the history, uses of Reiki, and other components of this Sacred Energy prior to receiving his or her certification in any level of the Usui System of Natural Healing. Please, do not be duped into thinking that if you were Attuned online, that you are practicing this Sacred Energy. You are definitely practicing healing energy, but it is simply NOT Reiki energy.

Are YOU a Certified Reiki Teacher?
My Reiki Teacher is Vickie Walsh, of The Reiki Center in Augusta, Maine. I was Attuned in Levels I and II of the Usui System of Natural Healing in January of 1997. I then used Reiki energy with my friends and family, and on myself, for four years, prior to receiving my Reiki Level III (Certified Reiki Teacher) in June of 2001. Sensei Walsh was Attuned by one of the 22 original Certified Reiki Teachers in the United States, Sensei John Gray. He was Attuned by Mrs.Hawayo Takata, the second woman to be Attuned as a Reiki Master in Japan, and the first person to bring the healing energy of Reiki to the United States, and to attach fees to the Universal energy.
Prior to that, there was no fee attached to Reiki, as Dr. Mikao Usui intended this energy to be shared fee-free! Mrs.Takata was Attuned by Sensei Dr.Chujiro Hayashi, who was Attuned by the original Reiki Teacher, Sensei Dr. Mikao Usui. My Reiki Teacher, Sensei Walsh, is a second generation Certified Reiki Teacher, and I am a third generation Certified Reiki Teacher. I hold my certification, training, and my Sensei in the highest regard. Namasté.

In Conclusion
The
power of Reiki cannot be denied. Just ask anyone who has ever received a
treatment. It is as Sacred to many Reiki Practitioners today as it was to Sensei
Usui when he first experienced its power on Mt. Kurama. Reiki benefits anything
and everything - including humans, plants, engines, sacred spaces, animals,
indeed ALL organic and inorganic organisms - and everything it comes into contact with is
transformed in one way or another. The results are always positive and relaxing
experiences for the client.
Currently
there are groups of Reiki Practitioners worldwide who are setting about to heal
our planet with Reiki's powerful energy. Mother Earth will
heal, in time. We can be sure things will not remain the same in an
ever-changing Universe, and that gives us all hope for the future. The only
constant in the Universe is change.
